African American Business Directory - Options, options and more options #

May 5th, 2006

For the last 2 years a lot of work, time and money has gone into
upgrading the African American Business Directory.
http://africanamericanbusinessdirectory.com

Well about a week ago some missing parts started to ‘click’.

Full co-branding is finally available. What is co-branding?
At it’s simplest form, it means that you get to make it look like
the search engine is a part of your site.

When visitors to your co-branded version do a search it appears
that they remain at your site, they see your page colors, advertising,
links etc.

Here is a working example of a branded site. I created this one for NBBTA.
NBBTA

Here is a working example to make just one portion look like your
sites. Let’s say your site is about finance. You could build a finance theme
around it.
Black Finance

You could have your branded version point only to the finance section.
You could use your own domain name for pointing by default to the finance
section. Like this: http://africanamericanaccountant.com/

Here is a section I setup just to show as a sample.
Sample Search Template

===================

So, what does all this mean. For one if you have been considering building
your own Black search engine or directory. This may be a good alternative
for you.

This is PPC (pay per click) search engine. Meaning people can pay to have
their listings for particular keywords show up at the top, ahead of free listings.

Another reason is that there is a built in affiliate program. It currently pays
35% to 50% on deposits made into the system. I may considering boosting
it for a promotional run.

I am running a special for full branding option: Just signup under me as a
Black Business Advocate (NBBTA Member) for $47 and I will make a custom
co-brand for you.

Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder

May 4th, 2006

“The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder is a 71-year old community newspaper committed to meeting the news and information needs of African Americans. The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder publishes every Thursday, reaching over 26,000 weekly readers here in Minnesota and around the country.

The Spokesman-Recorder is a strong institution with deep roots in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area. The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder is an inseparable part of the community reaching the citizens across class and background.

Publication Content
Each week, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder delivers what no general market medium does: news and information that’s written with an African American point of view, relevant to the life styles and interests of Blacks living in Minnesota! From world and national news to coverage of events in local politics, government, business, social services, education and society circles, you’ll find it in the”

“And when it comes to promoting community events, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder has been the official newspaper for:
*Sister Spokesman: a monthly gathering exclusively for women to network, socialize and just hang out”

“Established in August 1934 by Cecil E. Newman,”

Bean Soup Times

May 4th, 2006

“Newspaper Bites Man

In the beginning was the word … and it was funny!

Bean Soup Times began three years ago out of the frustration with the mainstream media’s lack of coverage on issues important to the Black American community. Last year, no media outlets reported on the “woman with the excessive weave,” the man who “put his marriage license in his mama’s name” or that “Black women were offering dance lessons to white girls if they left Black man alone.”

In March of 2001, Toure Muhammad decided to do something about this. He sent a simple text email to 50 friends and family. People immediately demanded more. He had no idea people would be so interested in his quirky view of the world. So with little money, but lots of confidence and determination, Toure launched a website and finally, the premier edition of Bean Soup Times  was printed in December of that same year.”

Indianapolis Recorder

May 4th, 2006

“The Indianapolis Recorder is a honored legacy that makes and impacts history. In its 110 years of existence, The Indianapolis Recorder proudly prevails as the fourth oldest surviving African-American newspaper in the nation. What began as a two-page church bulletin by George P. Stewart now hails as one of the top African-American publications in the nation.
Among its many recent awards in 2003 the Recorder was ranked number 1 in the nation for General Excellence and in 2004 best in the nation for layout and design.
So how does the Indianapolis Recorder stay high in demand and on the cutting edge? Creativity, innovation and the determination to focus on the community are key elements.
The creativity has been explosive. New concepts and ideas have emerged. The changes are evident throughout.
Much of the layout and design has been redeveloped. Notice the bold color, enhanced clarity and more creative photographs and graphics”
